About the Project

Latin Multimedia Research Project

The Project description (in short): You will...

#1) research a topic related to the ancient world (see below for ideas) of your choosing by reading and taking notes.

#2) compile and organize your research to create a slide presentation using multimedia (powerpoint, google slides, Prezi, etc).

#3) “present it” to me in a 4-10 minute video recording (details to follow)

Narrative Rubric & Guiding Questions:

The product: You will create a  4-10 minute video presentation. I would like you to use some sort of screen capturing software to record yourself while you talk through the slides you created to present your research.  Screencastify for Google Chrome is a useful browser add-on that allows you to record your screen and your voice at the same time.  The free version of screencastify has a 5 minute video limit, so if you go over, you may create two separate files.

You may use powerpoint, google slides, Prezi, or another multimedia presentation piece of software to create your slides.  Once you have a slide presentation and you have practiced reading through it a few times, you should record yourself talking as you present, just like you were presenting to me in a classroom.

Guiding Questions

You will do the research to be the expert on this topic.  A good presentation therefore will answer the following basic questions, and the ones below:

Who? What? Where? When? Why? (if applicable).

If you are researching and presenting a personality, after answering all the basic questions above, consider his or her importance and impact or legacy.  Did she/he do something famous or noteworthy?  What was his or her life’s work?  Is there an interesting story or quote from their lives in one of your sources that you can tell?

If you are researching and presenting an ancient wonder, describe the culture which built the wonder and its importance on the ancient world. When was it built? How long did it stand? Does it still stand today?  Do we know why it was built? What did it symbolize?  What was its purpose?

A presentation that goes above and beyond will bring the personality or place to life.  It is also a good idea to include a map in your presentation for context.  Pictures, sounds and video are encouraged!

Research and Sources:

  • Your final slide should be a “Works Cited” slide with three sources (minimum) properly cited in MLA format.
  • You may use Wikipedia as an official source though it does not count toward your final three. If you do use Wikipedia for research, you must cite it like you would anything else.
  • The sources should be listed in MLA format (noodle tools, Ms. Hamm and I are very glad to help with this!)
